Prohibited and restricted items

Some things can never be sold on Pawzaar, and some can only be sold with extra care. In particular, prescription-only veterinary medicines are pickup only, with the prescription checked at the clinic counter.

Draft for legal review. This text is written in plain English for Pawzaar in Pakistan and is being reviewed by a Pakistani lawyer. If anything here conflicts with the law of Pakistan or your province, the law wins.

1.Why we have these rules

Pets and farm animals depend on safe, genuine products. Some items are banned by Pakistani law; others are legal but need a vet's check or special handling. These rules apply to every listing, every seller and every order, and they sit on top of the law, not instead of it.

Pawzaar reviews new listings before they go live, scans titles and descriptions for prohibited words, and removes anything that breaks these rules. Sellers who break them may be suspended.

2.Prohibited: never allowed

  • Live animals. Pawzaar doesn't sell pets or livestock.
  • Wildlife and wildlife parts, including protected birds, reptiles and their eggs, skins, feathers, ivory and similar items.
  • Counterfeit, smuggled or unregistered drugs and vaccines, and any medicine without a valid DRAP registration where one is required.
  • Expired goods, or goods relabelled to hide an expiry date.
  • Human medicines sold for animals, and any medicine repackaged or split from its original pack unless the law allows it and it is dispensed by a vet.
  • Controlled substances, including narcotic or psychotropic drugs, anaesthetics and euthanasia drugs.
  • Growth promoters, hormones or additives banned in Pakistan for food-producing animals.
  • Weapons, traps and cruel equipment, such as glue traps, leg-hold traps, poisons for animals, spiked or shock collars sold for punishment, and fighting gear.
  • Stolen goods, fake brands and copied products, or listings using someone else's photos or brand without permission.
  • Anything else whose sale is illegal in Pakistan or in the buyer's province.

3.Restricted: prescription-only veterinary medicines

Pickup only, prescription checked at the counter, never shipped. Prescription-only medicines can be reserved online, but they are handed over only at the selling clinic after a vet or qualified staff member checks the prescription.
  • Only sellers with a verified, unexpired Drug Sale Licence (DSL) can list medicines, vaccines or prescription items. Pawzaar checks the licence during seller onboarding and hides these listings automatically if it expires.
  • Listings marked "Prescription required" can only be ordered for clinic pickup. Checkout blocks home delivery for them.
  • Bring a valid prescription from a registered veterinarian (PVMC) when you collect. If the clinic can't confirm it, they won't hand over the medicine and you pay nothing.
  • Antibiotics, antiparasitics with withdrawal periods and other medicines that need a vet's judgement follow the same rule unless the product's registration says otherwise.

4.Restricted: vaccines and cold-chain items

  • Vaccines and other items that must stay cold are pickup only, so the cold chain isn't broken in transit.
  • Ask the clinic about giving the vaccine there. Many clinics vaccinate on the spot or book you in.
  • Sellers must store these items at the temperatures on the label and must not sell them if the cold chain was broken.

5.Other restricted items

  • Over-the-counter medicines and supplements (dewormers, tick and flea products, vitamins): allowed only from licensed sellers, in original packs, with at least 6 months of shelf life at the time of sale.
  • Prescription diets: allowed; sellers should advise buyers to use them under a vet's guidance.
  • Livestock feed and mineral mixtures: allowed when correctly labelled with ingredients and expiry.
  • Pesticides and disinfectants: only products registered for use around animals, with safety labels in English or Urdu.

6.How listings must describe items

  • Use the product's real name, brand, pack size and strength. Show the real product in photos.
  • Don't make medical claims that the label or registration doesn't support (for example "cures all infections").
  • Show a crossed-out "compare at" price only if the item was really sold at that price.
  • Mark prescription items correctly. Turning off the prescription flag on a medicine sends the listing back for review.

7.Reporting a listing

If you see a listing that breaks these rules, use "Report this listing" on the product page or message Pawzaar support. We review reports within 2 business days and may remove the listing immediately while we check.

Sellers must follow these rules under the Seller agreement. Buyers can return items that arrive expired or wrong under the Returns and refunds policy.
